if you polish it, youll lose the plating that prevents rust, and yeah you could duracoat over it, but then why spend the extra money on the plating to begin with? just buy a regular one

But I'm thinking of it being on my boat, and exposure to a saltwater environment. I guess it wouldn't be there long enough to hurt anything though.

well if you take care of regular parkerizing, it should last a long time, and like he said, buyy whichever you want

A Mossberg 590A1 MilSpec (vs. a standard 590) has these three distinguishing characteristics:

1. Metal trigger guard assembly (vs. a plastic one on the standard).

2. Metal safety assembly (vs. a plastic one on the standard).

3. A heavier barrel than the standard (hence standard heat shields won't fit an A1 590 even though they do fit a standard 590).

in my opinion its the best pump shotgun out there. ive put thousands of rounds through mine, and its like butter, plus its accurate (sorry joh for letting you certify with it and it not being sited in) as hell with slugs now. and ghost ring sites are badass on a shotty

no worries, i just assumed sine were about the same size and build it would be close, didnt even look till i was done with the first round of quals..

Remington 870 FTW!. I personally think that the mossbergs quality is kind of cheap.
