Default Buying A Gun From An Individual

Wonder what legal issues I should be aware of if I wanted to buy a gun from someone, not a licensed gun seller. I suppose they don't have to check backrounds, and what about registering the gun... is that something I have to do?

registering the gun no. if youa re buying from an indivual ftf, there is no need for any kind of paperwork, or registering. if your buying it from a person out of your state, the gun will have to be sent from them (or there ffl depending on state) to your ffl of choice. what you will do is go to your locla ffl (federal firearms license) and get a copy of there ffl. you will then send the person you buying from a copy of your ffl and they will include the copy in the box your gun is shipped in. when it arrives to your ffl, you will have to fill out the regular paperwork, and they will run the background check on you. its a pretty simple transaction once youv done it once or twice.

just remember, when buying or selling a gun privately its a VERY good idea to take down the person's information. because if you sell the gun to someone and the gun is used to committ a crime it might come back to you if you dont prove that you sold it to them

It depends on what state you're in. Laws vary state to state. In Florida all I need to do is hand you cash and walk away. Is it the same in Illinois or Idaho? I don't know. I believe you can check your local laws on the NRA web site.
